Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

The South has the Kentucky Derby, the Brits have every other fabulous event that calls for a fascinator, and New York City has the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.  My best girlfriend Grace aka Mama is Haute, had four tickets to this year’s polo match and invited me to join for a girl’s day of drinking champagne, dressing up, spectacular views of the city, and a polo match.  It’s rare opportunities like this when you clear your schedule and say hell yes!  Like every event in the city, it’s a production.  We met up at 9:30am sharp on Saturday morning to catch the ferry to Liberty State Park in Jersey City.  Luckily, we had friends who got there earlier and snagged us a picnic table close to the polo field.  The entire scene was an instagram opportunity; there were ladies and gents dressed in their Summers’ best, champagne flowing, and the NYC skyline as the back drop.  I didn’t know much about polo going into this and I have to confess, I still don’t know much about the game.  It does look complicated and I can’t imagine having to ride a horse and hit a ball at the same time.  There’s also half-time where spectators get to stomp divots which was a complete Pretty Woman moment for every girl there.  I think what makes this event special is that every New York girl gets to experience a little bit of fantasy and gets to experience a little pretty woman in all of us.

Seeing the Statue of Liberty during the ferry ride never gets old.

We might as well enjoy the view while we wait on line.
