NYC

A Day in Red Hook

I have a confession to make…I’ve never been to Red Hook, Brooklyn.  I rarely go to Brooklyn for that matter (shame on me!).  I’m no better than any other Manhattanite who never ventures into other boroughs.  My boyfriend and I decided that we’re going to do a Brooklyn neighborhood tour and try to hit all of them by the end of the summer.  The 1st on our list was Red Hook.  The only things that I knew about Red Hook was Fairway, Ikea, and Baked Bakery.  It was a beautiful day yesterday in New York so we took the trusted Harley and rode over the Manhattan Bridge, through DUMBO, to Red Hook.  My overall impression of Red Hook is that it’s a quiet and quaint town that’s spread out like a suburb.  You don’t feel like you’re in the city here.  Our walking tour quickly turned into a food tour (as it always does).  This was our day in Red Hook.

We rode down Van Brunt Street, which is their main street and passed by the Red Hook Lobster Pound but we decided on Fort Defiance for brunch.

{I loved the tablecloths}

 {My boyfriend had the blood sausage and eggs-hard core!}

{This was the best biscuit I’ve ever had and it came with red pepper jam}

Our next stop was Baked.  They ran out of the salted caramel cake which they’re famous for (I was crushed) but I did have a red velvet cupcake.

We walked down Van Brunt Street passed the huge Fairway towards the water.  I loved this brick warehouse that looked a little scary.

{Old train behind Fairway}

{Waterfront Museum}

 {Are we still in Brooklyn?}

  {Following the signs to Steve’s authentic key lime pies}

 {A little taste of Key West at Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies}

 {I loved all the Key West themed chachkis}
