How I Stay Fit While Traveling

Staying fit while you travel can be a challenge but it’s totally possible with these 10 simple tips:

  1. Before I head to a new destination, I research and plan my workouts.  Depending on where I’m staying, I’ll check to see if there’s a gym in the hotel or nearby.  I’ll save the location in my google maps.
  2. If I’m staying in a major city like LA or SF, they have similar studios as in NY.  My favorites are Soul Cycle and Barry’s Bootcamp.
  3. There are yoga studios everywhere in the world.  I love yoga because it’s a great exercise and a way for me to get centered.  If I can’t get to a studio, I’ll do my own vinyasa flow.  I’ve even taken a Bikram yoga class in Argentina in Spanish!
  4. I love running in a new destination because it’s free and it’s a great way to explore a new place.  If I’m feeling super motivated, I will find a studio or gym, run there, take the class then run back.
  5. Hiking is my favorite way to get exercise. Even if it’s only for an hour, it’s so good for the soul to breathe in the fresh air and be in nature.
  6. I try to adhere to the same eating schedule as I would at home which is to splurge on the weekends and eat clean and active during the week.
  7. I do a lot of research on healthy restaurants.  I try my best to eat clean at least for breakfast and lunch so that I can splurge for dinner.
  8. If I’m in a beach location, I will go swimming, surfing, paddle boarding or kayaking.  These activities are just as fun as laying out and drinking a margarita.
  9. I opt to walk everywhere.  My sister and I walked 10 miles in Rome in one day.  We lost weight even though we were eating pasta the entire trip.  I love exploring all the streets by foot.
  10. I only choose one of the following:  carbs, wine or dessert…wine always wins.
