Art and Brunch

kidzart1Art has always been a huge part of my life and has been my creative outlet.  It’s a way for me to relax and to let my imagination go wild.  I share this passion with My best friend Susie who started her own art program business called KidzArt.  I love their motto, If you can dream…you can draw.  To launch KidzArt’s adult programs, I decided to host a brunch and invite all my favorite ladies to an afternoon of mimosas, good food, and art.

My favorite part of the whole art lesson was the first 10 minutes when susie told everyone to close their eyes and breathe.  Art is meant to be meditative and relaxing.  The first project was to draw a Chinese landscape.  Even I thought this was hard.  I was sort of wondering how the novice would be able to draw something like this.  Susie said that we’re going to take it step-by-step.

Surprisingly, everyone was afraid to start because they didn’t want to make a mistake.  Susie reminded her pupils that in art, there are no mistakes…oh, don’t you wish that was the case in real life?  The best thing that came out of this lesson was that everyone was able to finish the Chinese landscape even with their doubts.  The ladies were so happy that they made something.  I believe that the most gratifying experiences are when you finish something that you didn’t think you could do.  The second project was painting wine bottle vases.  This was substantially easier and that’s when everyone relaxed.  This was my favorite way to spend a Saturday with girlfriends, art and brunch (brunch post to follow).

The average adult doesn’t take the time to draw a picture or paint something.  Try to remember the last time you picked up a paint brush.  Art is incredibly relaxing and you’ll be surprised at what you’re capable of.  If you want to learn more about KidzArt, click here.
