Russ and Daughters

I grew up in New City, NY which has a large Jewish population so our town has an abundance of authentic Jewish delis and the best bagels.  One of my fondest food memories growing up was on Sunday mornings, either my mom or dad would bring my sister and I to Bagel Boys super early.  We would get the ones that were fresh and still piping hot.  The dozen would almost never make it to our house because we would eat one of the hot bagels on the way.  We would meticulously create the perfect sandwich layering the cream cheese, lox, tomato, red onion on top of a toasted bagel.  Sometimes, I would even eat 2.  Now as an adult, bagels with lox has become a comfort food to me it reminds me of those Sundays in New City, my hometown.  Russ and Daughters is a New York institution it’s been around for 100 years.  It’s as classic as the Empire State building.  The cafe which opened more recently serves bagels, bialys, smoked fish, caviar, and Jewish comfort foods.  My sister and I went there for Sunday brunch for a little bit of nostalgia because to me, food transports you back in time and conjures up happy memories.
