This is another short and sweet post because honestly, I didn’t do much on the island except for watching sunsets and relaxing with my girlfriends. Gili T is the biggest island of the three Gili Islands; located North of Lombok. This was one of the rare times during my travels when I didn’t do any research. I sort of wish I did because Gili T is known as the party island. A lot of people who know me told me after the trip that I should’ve gone to Gili Meno or Gili Air which are more my vibe and more of my age group – hey!
It was quite accurate because most of the revelers on Gili T were in their twenties and ready to party. All I heard from morning until night was the pulsing of EDM music or techno as I knew it. Gili T and the other Gili Islands are also known for their diving so if you’re not learning to dive or are not an avid diver, there’s not a whole lot to do. It’s a tiny island where you can only get around via bike or horse cart. I do have to say though that the waters are turquoise blue and other than the clubby vibe, it was a gorgeous place.
You will immediately recognize Gili T when you’re going through the West side of the island because you see all of those Instagrammable swings. I believe that’s actually why we ended up going to Gili T because my friend wanted to check them out. What these bloggers don’t show you are the lines of people waiting for their turn on a swing for a photo. It was actually quite comically for us to see in person. Don’t get me wrong, we were equally as guilty because we each took our photo!
I only recommend hotels or hostels where I’ve truly had an exceptional experience and that’s why I cannot recommend the place we stayed. So in conclusion, I would recommend Gili T if you’re a diver, a twenty something in need of a party scene (like our Cancun), or you really want to get your Instagram photo of those swings. Otherwise, I’m going to check out Gili Meno and Gili Air on my next trip.
